Highs and Lows

When joyous is soul with ecstasy,
She picks the brush and paints the sea,
Or sketches a life she loves to death,
Prizes solitude and silence she hath!

When happiness in heart makes her sing,
She laughs and talks like a flowing spring,
Or is immersed in her world of books,
Sways to old songs while she cooks!

When bored with the work at hand,
She rather slacks than withstand,
Surfs the net or scribbles her dreams,
Time never passes, or so it seems!

When in her heart some sorrow seeps,
She thinks a lot and silently weeps,
Finds solace in enlightened being,
Nurtures her soul to grow and sing!

But when distressed with deeper pain,
When all efforts to cheer goes vain,
When a scared heart beats and skips,
Silently she puts herself to sleep.

  1. clawfish says:

happiness and the heart should go hand in hand

  2. RAMU DAS says:

“Surfs the net ” Such concepts and phrases should be used more often, some people stick to using those outdated words/phrases/expressions that have no resemblance to the present generation. I’m not saying that altogether we should avoid those classical terms, but at least, we need to do something different, something unique.

    Check this poem http://ramudas.wordpress.com/2012/05/20/she-was-a-big-liar/

The lines below, I believe are quite modern, that has something to do with us:
“She left me because of the Mercedes Benz that I couldnโ€™t afford?
Although, for her, I loving purchased a brand new ford”

I actually cant believe you liked that part…!!!

I was extremely skeptical about using that phrase but i couldn’t think of anything better a modern day girl could do when bored…

Classics are classics, modern day poems definitely cannot beat them anyways. I love old English ๐Ÿ™‚

      • RAMU DAS says:

I love classics as much as you do, but what I’m saying is that we should write something that we do in our everyday life, for example, surfing the net is what we do. The classic writers never had net, or gadgets that we use today, otherwise, I’m sure, they would have made use of such examples. ๐Ÿ˜€

      • njs says:

Rightly said,,, The poems will be more realistic then to suit today’s time.

But the confusion I faced was – usage of words like “hath” and “surfs the net” in the same poem… I feared creating a disgusting cocktail… LOL

  3. parashartales says:

hey Njs… Your poem defines an independent woman with so much power and controlled over pain; still fragile, longing for love… really a treat…specially the opening…When joyous is soul with ecstasy,She picks the brush and paints the sea… brilliant work gurl..god bless you…

  4. surindernath says:

    Prescription :

She should fall in love with a nice boy handsome decent and tall,
100 blushes, 50 chats and 100 love calls before every night-fall

  5. Powerful and haunting.

  6. Nicely done.. Loved it!
